The weather couldn’t have been better for the last day of French Quarter Fest. Warm, but not too warm, cloudy, but not too cloudy, sunny, but not too sunny – that was the scene on April 19,2009. The ominous clouds and howling winds of the previous two days had all but disappeared. I began my afternoon at the Esplanade in the Shade stage where the spicy vocals, fiery fiddle and goodtime Cajun melodies of Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys charmed an enormous bunch of enthusiastic onlookers. Shaw, a season veteran at the tender age of 18, has been entertaining crowds around the Crescent City for over a decade, but it has only within the last few years that her popularity has skyrocketed. Judging by the turnout this day, it was clear that the ceiling is nowhere in sight for this red-hot redhead.
