What a tumultuous day! Few things could have gone worse for me on Friday at Voodoo Fest. After a two hour wait in the press / credentials line (ridiculous!), I entered the festival grounds around 2:30pm – furious that I missed
Luke Winslow-King. My first stop was at the WWOZ Stage to soak in a bit of
Ledisi. Typically, I’m not big on R&B, but perhaps a touch of soul was what I need to cool me off. Just after the native New Orleanian belted out a smoldering rendition of Louis Armstrong’s classic “What a Wonderful World,” I headed to the Preservation Hall Tent as the afternoon’s first flash rainstorm came through. There,
Lil Brian & the Zydeco Travelers were stirring up a storm of there own. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, there’s just something about zydeco’s feisty, feel good grooves that set my mind at ease – especially on a hot day… 98 degrees in October, that’s New Orleans for you.
