Co-founder and President of Highland Capital Management, L.P., James Dondero announced his firm’s award of a $1 million challenge grant to assist The Family Place in their $2.8 million goal for their Legacy Campaign which comes to a close in April.
The Family Place is a Dallas based domestic violence shelter designed to empower the victims of familial abuse through providing safe housing, counseling, and skills that foster independence, all while creating community awareness and engagement, and advocating for social change.
The Legacy Campaign, if successful, will yield a new Central Dallas Counseling Center, which will provide resources and services to victims of domestic violence, including medical, dental, emergency hotlines, and up to 13 emergency shelter bedrooms.
The announcement was made at the Family Places’s 21st Annual Texas Trailblazer Award Luncheon, held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, on October 4 of 2016.
The grant is through the Highland Dallas Foundatiopn, Inc, which serves as the philanthropic wing of Highland Capital Management, L.P.. The foundation pledges to match 50 percent of all funds raised for the campaign, up to $1 million from the time of the pledge (Oct 4) to the campaign deadline (April 4)
James Dondero stresses that the grant is an answer to the call to action made by Dallas Mayor, Mike Rawlings, and Dallas Police Chief, David Brown, to put an end to domestic violence in their community.
James Dondero graduated from The University of Virginia, receiving highest honors from the McIntire School of Commerce with dual majors in Accounting and Finance.
Today, he has over thirty years of experience in the credit and equity industry.
James Dondero, in addition to being co-founder and president of Highland Capital Management, a company that has established itself as an innovator in the development of the CLO market, and credit oriented solutions for institutional and retail investors across the globe. Mr Dondero also serves as Chairman of Cornerstone Healthcare, CCS Medical, and Nexbank.
