The gondola operates in three separate parts. It starts at the bottom of Squaw Valley, going over the ridge between the mountains, and then stopping at the bottom of Alpine Meadows. Wirth says that this plan has been in the making for over a decade. The new gondola will share the Western edge of the stretch of land known as the White Wolf. The White Wolf is connected to the Granite Chief Wilderness Area. Learn more about Andy Wirth:

The gondola is rumored to pass through the United States Forest Service Land. The gondola announcement comes during a time where Squaw Valley is moving forward with its plans to expand the base area village. Some local skiers have argued against this proposal. Squaw Alpine will look for support from the United States Forest Service, as well as Placer County. Wirth says that the snow pack will not impact the gondola – Andy Wirth – Squaw Valley CEO and Philanthropist.

There will be some instances where the KT Ridge may run as a stand alone segment of the gondola. Wirth says the implementation of the gondola could make Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows one of the largest ski areas in the lower 48.

Andy Wirth says that getting the input and involvement of the community is very important to the project. Wirth says that improving the snow service levels should be the main focus at this point for Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
